Fantastic
RRUGGER (New York, NY) 1/13/2020 2:20 PM
Excellent Castoreum interpretation, somewhat similar to Ambergris in its top notes, but decidedly different from early stages of dry-down forward. It works wonderfully with narcotic florals like Orange Blossom or Narcissus, it also imparts an additional level of reality to any leather accord. It is definitely lighter than a Castoreum Absolute, but much easier to work with, and almost as efficient. Because it has some similarities with an Ambergris Accord, I can see it as a replacer when the marine aspects of Ambergris are not wanted (or if you don't have it). It is a wonderful addition to materials like Guaiacwood or Styrax, and it forms an exquisite accord with Beeswax Absolute. A wonderful way to learn to work with Castoreum.

Wow!

Ok, so wow! I have never smelled true castoreum absolute before, but this accord sure smells like the descriptions I've read all about. This is dark, sweet, very leathery, slightly breathy, and it is surprisingly so pleasant. Absolutely nothing like I expected. The castoreum essence I tried from another source is worlds apart, smelling nothing like this. It is more harsh, offensive, and pungent without ANY leather nuances. It is supposed to be 1:1 benzyl benzoate and castoreum absolute, but it may be the benzyl benzoate that ruins it. Anyhow, this totally took me by surprise. Again, I don't know how close this is to real castoreum, but I sure do like it anyway. Highly recommended.
