FULL STRENGTH AROMA CHEMICALS
|
These aroma chemicals MUST be used within their percentage guidelines.
Many of these aroma chemicals can cause adverse reactions if the guideline percentages are not adhered to. In other words, if the instructions say to use something in ‘trace amounts’ think of it like the tiny end of a toothpick. 1% is 1% of the total perfume formula concentration.
one-ounce bottle of think of it like this:
I know this is a silly drawing but it seems to help make things clearer.
When you make perfume with these un-cut concentrations your
alcohol and perfume base or jojoba oil is not counted as part of the fragrance concentration.
Keep your top notes, base notes, and middle notes in check.
Your Base notes should make up 50 to 55%
Middle notes 20 to 25 %
Top notes 20 to 25 %
To equal 100%
These full strength chemicals should be handled with care.
Keep all perfume ingredients away from children.
We do make adjustments to some of these chemicals to make them pour-able. Some come in powders and crystals, and some are solids. Some are heavy and thick and we must dilute them a bit so they can be poured. Some aroma chemicals will not have a smell until they are diluted. Some are really unpleasant but are invaluable in a perfume formula. It may seem strange to add things like civet, castorum, and certain notes that seem sharp or stinky to your nose, but most of these elements are diluted to an extreme point and they only lend a direction or non-distinguishable
quality to the perfume. You may be thinking I want a perfume that smells nice like a flower, but without these notes a perfume can fall flat or be cloying (too sweet) or lack any natural earthiness. This is when aroma chemicals work their magic. These chemicals are extremely strong and care needs to be taken when you use them. Most should be diluted to at least 10% before using and before even smelling in some cases. All aroma chemicals should be smelled on paper smell strips and not from the actual bottle.
All full strength aroma chemicals are sold in 1/2 ounce bottles. |
